It dates to the 17th century and was built as a corn mill and converted to a sawmill in 1860 and milled trees from the estate for around 40 years. It is powered by water from the moat and being built into a slope is an example of a “bank mill”. The waterwheel is still able to drive machinery and could produce the equivalent of around 7.7kW of energy. The Dunham Massey estate is owned by the National Trust.
