Acrylic on Canvas. 36" x 28" (91.5cm x 71cm)

A painting in Tony's Sensing Space via Architectural Modernism series. This piece of work draws on both the Cubist and Precisionist art movements the latter to some extent growing out of the former.
The painting is based on the famous Transamerica Pyramid Centre a familiar building in the skyline of San Francisco. The pyramid theme was very much to the fore in the era between the two World Wars attracting much interest from artists and architects. They were seen as a symbol of the 'modern age' signifying power and status.
The Transamerica Building was completed in 1972. William l Pereira and Harry D Som were the architects, the former was also involved in the design of the famous Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
