This retro art is known to have been drawn in the 1960's. The artist is anonymous. Although we do not know the original artist or an accurate date or place of origin, what we do know is that the artwork was among a parcel of art acquired from the administrator of jacquard furnishing weaver Herbert Green of Silsden in 2002. The work is similar to art in our archive drawn up for this Mill by textile design houses H. Pratt of Manchester and Walbank and Parkin of Bradford in the late 1960's. These companies created art in house and also sourced art from 'secret' artists with particular handwriting. They used the art as suggestions of designs to numerous weavers of furnishing, dress and carpet fabrics. A lot of the weaving manufacturers at this time who did not have their own designers also required the technical textile skills of the design houses to plan appropriate weaves and create punched loom cards for the weaver to produce the prescribed fabric qualities. Invariably 'industry' service companies kept artist names from the original work to protect their interests in the supply chain to the Manufacturers. However, whilst this art is unsigned the work does resemble the style of an independent artist at this time called C. H. Blackford. This work is sold framed in a light oak frame. The light oak frame measures 25" high x 22" wide. The internal mount is a white card with a mitred edge. The aperture of the art measures 15" x 17".
