The beauty and power of big cats has always drawn my interest, creating a desire to express them. This image in particular of a leopard captivated me, and I aimed to express the movement of this amazing animal as it emerges from the shadows. The semi-abstract background contrasts with the more detailed yet still contemporary rendered form of the leopard.
Charcoal, including the use of liquid charcoal complimented the image well and gives it a strong contrast and chiaroscuro effect.
